Girl baby for DestraDeborah John Features Editor
Friday, January 15th 2010Soca siren Destra Garcia gave birth to a bouncing baby girl yesterday afternoon, one day earlier than the expected due date.
Father, Brian Morris, said the baby whose name is Xaiya, weighs 6lbs 15ozs and both mother and baby were doing well.
The new mother explained that the name Xaiya was their alternative to the name Isiah. ’I wanted an unusual first name like mine and we searched around a lot,’ Garcia explained.
In a recent interview, the soca star, known for her hits like ’Trimble It’, ’Sassiness’, ’Bonnie and Clyde’, ’I Dare You’, ’Obsessive Winers’ and ’Carnival’ described herself as being on ’standby’ with her baby bag in the car. The baby room was ready, she had said, and decorated in pink.
Garcia said the labour had been long but she was ’happy, though very tired’.
’It was everything I thought it would be. Now I have to learn how to be a good mum. She is so innocent. Right now she is just sleeping a lot.’
When told there were already postings of the birth on Twitter and other sites, Garcia expressed surprise, but noted that news of the birth had been reported on some radio stations yesterday.
