What:        The Toronto Mas Bands Association  (TMBA) compete in the annual event which crowns titles for King of the Band, Queen of the Band, Male Individual, Female Individual, and other categories recognizing design and innovation.   This year’s event sponsored by Chevrolet, will feature a Jumbotron to magnify the beauty and splendour of the presentation for all spectators.
Why:         The Toronto Mas Bands Association (TMBA) is a non-profit arts organization founded in 2000 to support the development and promotion of the Carnival Arts. The TMBA is one of the most influential arts organizations contributing to the wealth and appeal of Toronto's cultural calendar of events.  The 8,000 + masqueraders sporting costumes designed by the Bands of the TMBA are the main attraction of the Grand Parade on Lakeshore that takes place Saturday August 4th.

Families are invited to jump up and join in the carnival experience on Sunday July 29th. Mask making, storytelling, steel drums and the pulsating rhythms of the islands will have you parading through the museum.

STORYTELLING
11:00 AM and 2:00 PM
Storyteller Sandra Whiting has been telling stories from the time she could talk. Her stories draw upon the rich oral traditions of West African mythologies, folklore, and traditional tales from the Caribbean. With the lyrical lilt of her Jamaican accent, her storytelling has been known to make both children and adults laugh, cry and think.


MUSIC
The Toronto North Stars Children Steel Orchestra
Let the music of the islands get you to jump up out of your seats. Sway and dance to the steel pan sound and then learn how to play in a facsinating demonstration after the first performance. If you are lucky you may be picked to try it out yourself!

CRAFTS
11 AM to 4 PM
Make you own mask, headress and costume elements. Everything you need to prepare to parade in carnival.


PARADE
2:30 PM
Join the King and Queen from the Children's Carnival in a parade around the museum. Put on your costume and dance in celebration of the 2012 Toronto Caribbean Carnival.


FACE PAINTING by Makin' Faces

Carnival: From Emancipation to Celebration
Don't forget to stop by and get inspired at the new exhibit Carnival: From Emancipation to Celebration, featuring the work of internationally renowned masquerade designer Brian Mac Farlane including four costumes and 21 hand painted renderings from the famed Mac Farlane design studios or "mas camp", along with Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival photographs.
