Barbados Ambassadors Of Canada On The Road, Caribana 2011

Barbados Ambassadors Of Canada On The Road, Caribana 2011…
The Lakeshore welcomes, Spirits Of The Caribbean !

Toronto, Canada - Wednesday April 20, 2011 -: Barbados Ambassadors of Canada (BAC), a budding non-profit organization, fostering cultural ties amongst the Caribbean Diaspora living in Canada, has set its sights on, Toronto’s Caribana Festival. From defenders of Caribbean heritage to Mas connoisseurs, BAC announced just weeks ago plans to unite the Caribbean community through Mas. Taking on both, ‘Kiddies Carnival’ and the ‘Lakeshore’ BAC prepares to launch their portrayal, Spirits Of The Caribbean.

Spotlighting the pulsating history of islands such as Barbados, Jamaica, St. Vincent, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago –Spirits Of The Caribbean’ brings to light, the many Caribbean people united through the Spirit of Carnival around the world. Drawing inspiration from famed mythical characters - Barbados – Steel Donkey,Jamaican - Golden Table, St. Vincent – Garifuna, Guyana’s – Jaguar, and the Trinidadian - Soucouyant,Spirits Of The Caribbean transforms treasured folklore into visual realities. While each character individually illustrates a unique island tale, as a band they depict the very essence of Caribbean diversity.

Speaking candidly on the creative concept behind Spirits Of The Caribbean band leader, Susan Grogan shares, “Masqueraders are in for quite an experience, Spirits of the Caribbean meshes our heritage with the most unique elements of sophistication.... much like our culture, the costumes are flavorful, multi-dimensional, and seductive.”

On Sunday May 22nd, 2011 the highly anticipated band, will undoubtedly redefine traditional band launch standards. Alongside the featured (5 section) Mas collection, party goers will be privy to exclusive performances by Edwin Yearwood (Barbados), Kerian Piper (St. Lucia), Slama Cutter (Toronto/Trinidad), and surprise guests yet to be mentioned.

Media Alert - TruDynasty Bandlaunch

Media Alert

TruDYNASTY Carnival Band Launch

Theme: The Roaring 20’s

What: Caribana Costume Launch

When: Saturday, April 16, 2011

PreShow Interviews and Pictures: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Show Time: 10:00 PM – 11:30 PM Doors Open at 8:00 PM

Where: York University, 4700 Keele Street, at the Underground in the Student Centre

You’ll not want to miss TruDYNASTY’s 2011 band launch. If their 2010 costumes blew you away, get prepared for 2011! The theme, The Roaring 20’s, leaves the door open to spectacular designs. TruDYNASTY will host 9 sections representing the 1920 era: Josephine Baker, CoCo Chanel, Bonnie & Clyde, Flapper Girls, Match Girls, Gangsterz, Show Girls, All That Jazz and Speak Easy.

‘This theme has tremendous creative potential. The Roaring 20’s is noted for its social, artistic, cultural dynamism and a break with traditions. We wanted to do a theme that hasn’t been done before and highlight an era that was exciting and revolutionary both in fashion and politics,’ said bandleaders Dario and Thea Jackson.

TruDYNASTY is becoming known for breaking from traditions, not only through costume design but also through being the 4th band in Caribana’s 44 years to win and jump from a ‘C’ band to an ‘A’ band.

This year their costume designs are positioned to break traditions again. However, TruDYNASTY has added another break – they’re donating a portion of every costume sale to charity – nine different charities, to be exact: Sickle Cell Ontario, The Covenant House, Ronald McDonald House Toronto, StepStones for Youth, Camp Awakening for Children with Disabilities, Nellie’s Women and Children Shelter, Youth Challenge Fund, Caribbean Children’s Foundation and The Princess Margaret Foundation.

Which section will be the show stopper this year? You be the judge, you may find there’s more than one!

About TruDYNASTY Carnival Inc.

TruDYNASTY is a non profit organization located in Brampton and a participant in Toronto, Ontario’s Scotiabank Caribana Parade and Atlanta, Georgia’s Caribbean Carnival. They’ve also designed for a Mas Band in the St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands’, 2010 Carnival.
