Caribana Long Weekend Transportation Services

Hi readers,

I just received an FB link to some info regarding transportation services for the Caribana weekend. I can't say that I have ever seen this service provided before and I think it's a fabulous idea:
Do you see the benefits? No DRINKING and DRIVING...no crowded bus, no over expensive cab and save on hotel costs!! What more can you ask for??

If you know any groups needing transportation for Caribana weekend, please let me know...I'm providing a service with pick-up, drop off and return rates...just need the day, time and location. Rates Negotiable outside of designated pick up points!!

World's Best Steel Drum Orchestra Performs at Scotiabank Plaza as part of Caribana - noon today
Trinidad & Tobago's SILVER STARS STEEL ORCHESTRA at Scotia Plaza

62 years of performing brings the LEGENDARY pan orchestra to Toronto

WHAT: Trinidad and Tobago's World renowned Silver Stars Steel Orchestra members will perform live at Scotia Plaza on Tuesday, July 27th at noon in celebration of their 62 years of success, joining the Scotiabank Caribana festivities. The Steel Band will perform in front of Scotia Plaza’s Adelaide Street Entrance.

ALSO at SCOTIA PLAZA: While visiting Scotia Plaza to hear the sound of the Silver Stars, be sure to head down to the concourse level for an up-close look at last year’s costume winner of the Queen of the Bands competition. “The Source” is part of the Carnival Nationz presentation, “In Full Bloom – Fruits & Flowers” and depicts the sun in all its glory. Designed & built by Kenny Coombs, “The Source” is approximately 20’ high, 35’ wide

WHEN: Tuesday July 27, 2010 - 12 noon - 1 p.m.

WHY: Newtown based Silver Stars Steel Orchestra most recently took home the championship for the second year in a row at Carnival, claiming top title and prize at National Panorama in Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain. Playing more of a Trinidad and Tobago Creole style of music, the Band is here in Toronto to perform in support of Scotiabank Caribana, and is the only Steel Band to hold a Band of the Year title in Mas competition.

Carnival Nationz Marshalls Needed

CARNIVAL NATIONZ MARSHALLS NEEDED
We are looking for people to volunteer on Caribana Saturday July 31st to help coordinate crowd control and assist security on the parade route. This allows you be in the parade, be with your family member or loved one or simply be in the Caribana atmosphere. Our meeting will be held Thursday July 29th, however please contact our supervisor first for specifics. SERIOUS ENQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE.

  • TAKE CARE OF MASQUERADERS
  • ASSEMBLING AND DISMANTLING KING AND QUEEN COSTUME
  • PROVIDE FOOD AND WATER FOR MASQUERADERS AND SECURITY
  • PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR MASQUERADERS ( MAKE SURE NO ONE IS TOO CLOSE TO THE TRUCK WHEELS ETC)
  • ASSIST SECURITY WITH CLEARING THE WAY FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES

2010 Kaiso 365 Calypso Monarch Results.....Congratulations Macomere

The 2010 "Kaiso 365" Calypso Monarch competition took place in the Imperial Oil Auditorium at the Ontario Science Centre before a full house and was won by Macomere Fifi (real name Eulith Woods). Performing two outstanding songs written by Winston “Skippy” Maingot and Carlyle Bailey, Fifi also captured the People's Choice Award. The official results:

Macomere Fifi, who won the crown in 2008, was also awarded several of the Special Awards: Best Lyrics, Best Melody, Best Arrangement, Best Presentation, Most Original Calypso and Best Rendition. The Best Composition of a Local Topic was won by Structure and Most Humorous Calypso was captured by Penshioner. The evening was hosted by popular stage personality Itah Sadu and featured a special appearances by the 2009 U.K. Monarch Akima Paul and up-and-coming Rashida - a 13-year old who thrilled audiences this year.

In addition to the cash prize of over $5,000., Macomere Fifi will receive a trip to London, England for the Notting Hill Carnival and at trip to Atlanta for the 2011 Georgia Caribbean Carnival.

Carnival Nationz Costume Distribution Schedule

CARNIVAL NATIONZ COSTUME DISTRIBUTION DATES
FOR CARIBANA 2010

Pickup is located at the Mas Camp 529 McNicoll Ave.
NEW For ladies there will be tights on sale at the Mas Camp during pick times. These are the tights from Trinidad that are skin tone aaaaaand eliminate the Forbidden Cellulite look. They are great in hot conditions so don't worry about that. If you're interested ask at pick up time.
NEW FAST TRACK For those who have paid off their costume already please note there will be a special location for you. You will not have to wait to pick up your costume. Please remember to walk with your receipt and/or ID and this process will be painless. Your bag will be ready and waiting for you on your assigned day.
Ladies and Gentlemen the time is here for 2010. Time to get ready for de road. We at Carnival Nationz are just as excited as you are to be presenting a legend...Sparrow d' Legend on the Lakeshore. I know you're all ready for yuh costumes like yesterday so as usual NO LONG TALK!
We have set aside special days for each section. Pickup begins on Sun July 25th and ends on Fri Jul 30th. For all out of town masqueraders please make sure we know to hold your costume until Friday evening or a specified time. Please NOTE: At pickup you will recieve all other information pertaining to Caribana day assembly time, location, order of trucks etc. The scheduled time for costume pickup is as follows:

PICKUP RULES AND GUIDLEINES:

  • Please do not show up on days not assigned to your section before your scheduled pickup date. In other words if you are to pick up on Tues PLEASE do not show up on Monday and assume your costume will be ready.
  • There will be no trying on at the mas camp on pickup days. We are also not responsible for alterations. For all minor alterations (as everyone may have) please feel free to do at home or at a professional tailor or seamstress ..thank you in advance for understanding.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Concerning costume pickup please walk with your receipt. If you have lost your receipt please walk with a valid photo ID. If you are sending someone to pickup your costume please give them a copy of your receipt. If you have lost your receipt and would like someone to pick up your costume PLEASE photocopy your drivers license or a valid photo ID and write in your own handing that your authorize {person Jane Doe} to collect your costume then sign at the bottom.
  • Lastly if you cannot come to pick up your costume on the assigned date, not to worry, PLEASE LET US KNOW IN ADVANCE and we will gladly make an appointment with you. We intend to hold your costume for you until 6pm Caribana Friday. YOU MUST LET US KNOW IN ADVANCE if you cannot make your schedued pickup date. Go to carnivalnationz.com and/or contact your section leader directly from the numbers listed above. Please be aware that you would have to make this appointment outside the time assigned to the other section's scheduled times. In other words if you are in BIG BAMBOO and are supposed to come to the mas camp between 6-10pm on Monday and cannot make it for that time, then feel free to call and schedule an appointment anytime between the hours of 10am-4pm Tues or Wed or Fri.
  • Any costume remaining after 6pm on Friday 30th July (without prior nofication to the band or section leaders) WILL BE SOLD. PLEASE NOTE ALL FINAL PAYMENTS ARE DUE AT PICKUP.

So Naomi, Scotiabank Caribana blogger extraordinaire, asked the question "How should one get into shape for Caribana?" Well, I knew I had the answer.......Socacize Caribana Bootcamp of course!!!! You guys know how much I rave about Socacize.....the most fun I've ever had working out.....so I contacted Naomi and was sooooo happy to see her and Shannon from "Those Girls Are Wild" (new fave blog btw) show up to class last week. Check out their experience........

The Scotiabank Caribana Parade is coming to the 299 Queen St. W. parking lot to get the party started before taking over Toronto.

On Thursday, July 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., CP24, CTV Toronto and CHUM FM will welcome the community to a vibrant celebration in our parking lot.

Feel De Vibe @ 299 will offer the best of the Caribbean – authentic cuisine, music, dancers and lots of fun prizes. Food and refreshments will be available to purchase at reasonable prices.
